| All these patterns can be hand pieced using a stitch called the Promise Stitch (Double Stitch). This craft, orgininating with the Appalachian Mountain people, is enjoying a revival in the country. The stitch has been handed down from generation to generation. It can be traced back to before the United States won independence from Great Britain. |

This is a good project for using up some of those scraps you have hanging around. This pattern can be done all by hand with the double stitch method, no sewing machine required. Combine a running stitch, a top stitch, and embroider flowers and the word remember all around the outside border. Use special fabrics that hold many memories and it will be a wonderful keepsake. Framed art piece is approx. 17.5 x 20 inches. |

Square Dance - A pattern from Mountain Patchwork. This double stitch pattern can be done almost all by hand, no sewing machine required except to bind. The quilting stitch is a warm, primitive stich, not a fine hand quilting stitch. Mountain Patchwork promotes hand stitching but realize many will want to use their machines. They suggest a compromise. Use your machine but do the top stitch by hand for that warm primitive feel. The full size quilt of 20 blocks is approx. 72 x 87 inches. |

Starburst - Mountain Patchwork double stitch pattern can be done completely by hand- Star light, star bright, a burst of star we sew tonight! Use any color fabric or scarps for the colorful parts. The star can be made of any lighter fabric, Osnaburg or muslin. It will highlight your embroidery nicely. The framed art piece is approx. 15.5 inches square. |
